Situated in the prime wildlife-viewing location of the mighty Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve), Siwandu promises an unparalleled safari experience in luxury tented accommodation. Ideal for romantics, the camp is divided into two sections to offer maximum privacy in this remote and beautiful location. Tents are dotted along the shores of Lake Nzerakera and sheltered by a palm forest - elephants and hippos frequently wander through the camp on their way to the lake.
As one of Africa's wildest and least known reserves, Nyerere National Park offers incredible game viewing and you'll enjoy daily game drives in the reserve. You'll be able to spot members of the largest crocodile and hippo populations in Africa, and perhaps get the chance to see the rare African wild dog. Boat safaris on the Rufiji River depart from the camp's two jetties and you can also enjoy excellent bird watching and guided walking tours through the bush.
Highlights
Activities
The wildlife passing the tents at regular intervals and the resident herd of impala was fantastic! The pick was the afternoon boat ride - concentration of crocodile was unbelievable.
Rooms
Tent
Spacious, octagonal tents of canvas and secure mosquito netting, topped in thatch, not only allow for constant air flow but also allow you to see animals that may saunter past through camp. The design of the tents takes you back to the safari days of old, and everything about them is supremely comfortable. The outdoor, solar-heated shower is a beautiful addition as well as the sofa in front of the tent, to relax during leisure hours in this wild landscape.
Facilities
Each of the two sections of the camp has its own swimming pool and fully stocked bar where you can relax without being bothered by large crowds.
The lounge areas feature large, comfortable sofas, beautiful views over the surrounding wilderness, and a wildlife reference library where you can learn more about the animals you've spotted during the day.
Dining
Each section of the camp has its own dining area and fully-fitted, well-stocked kitchens where chefs prepare delicious meals for you. The dining areas are also raised to double as viewing platforms for when the animals wander through camp. Expect delicious, table d’hote dining that features tasty African influences and local, fresh fruit, vegetables and spices. All meals are complimented with a great selection of wines.
