Get back to basics at Kutali: this intimate tented camp lies under thorn trees on an island deep in Lower Zambezi National Park. Open during the driest and most rewarding time of year – between June and November – Kutali Camp promises to deliver an exceptional wildlife experience for seasoned safari travelers to Zambia. The Lower Zambezi is a big game country, home to familiar heavyweights such as elephant and buffalo, lion and hippo as well as rarer or more elusive creatures – leopard, honey badger, and hyena – as well as many bird species.
You will be in the safe hands of seasoned professional guides and camp hosts who ensure you have a comfortable and memorable stay. The activities at Kutali are flexible – day and night game drives are woven into a day in which you can also go on a guided walking safari, canoe adventure, or a leisurely boat cruise on the Zambezi River. Any special interests of yours – such as bird watching or fishing, for example - are easily accommodated, and the whole camp can be privately booked for a larger group or family with older children.
Built with the lightest of eco-footprints and taken down after each season, Kutali Camp offers four tented suites, each with its private bathroom and, thanks to their design, wilderness views from literally every corner. It is a camp that combines the old and new seamlessly: solar power ensures you have electric light and a battery recharging station for electrical devices, and you also enjoy classic safari touches like an early-morning wake–up call with fresh coffee and a basin of hot water delivered to your suite.

Tent
The four suites at Kutali Camp have been designed to showcase their unspoiled views. The main walls are made of sturdy, bug-proof, mesh netting which gives you amazing views of the Zambezi River and its wildlife. And when you feel like a bit more privacy, simply roll down the canvas walls.
Each suite is equipped with a twin or double bed, bedside table, shelves for your clothes, solar-powered electric lights, and a pair of chairs outside and overlooking the river. You also have the comfort of your bathroom, accessed directly from your suite and containing a flush toilet, basin, and a classic safari bucket shower – with hot water on request – plus all the extras like fluffy towels and toiletries.
Facilities
Kutali Camp’s communal mess tent stretches out underneath a giant thorn tree and is the place to enjoy drinks and meals, meet fellow guests, and swap a safari story or two. There are director’s chairs set around the dining table and bar where you will find drinking water to refill your water bottles (provided by the camp). If you would like to do a bit of reading, the reference library makes an interesting diversion on a hot afternoon, and the complimentary laundry service means you get back from a day on safari to fresh clothes, ideal for packing light.
Dining
Kutali Camp cooks everything on site and you sit down to three great meals a day, with special dietary requirements catered for with advance notice. Meals are served either outside or in the communal tent, depending on the weather. Filtered drinking water is always available at camp and local soft and alcoholic drinks are included.
It is always best to get an early start on safari so the day begins early with toast, fruit, and porridge served next to the campfire with tea, coffee, and fruit juice. You return to a hearty home-cooked lunch – a pasta and vegetable bake for example, or chicken and salad – and can look forward to a 3-course meal at the end of the day, featuring a soup, entrée and a homey dessert such as apple crumble or milk tart.
