Set discreetly upon the banks of the Selinda Spillway in northern Botswana, this intimate bohemian-chic lodge harkens back to a bygone era of the classic safari camp. Simple yet refined, this is as close to wild Africa as you can get.
Recommended for honeymooners, adventurous couples, or groups of friends, Selinda Explorers Camp is located in an exclusive-use concession and caters to a maximum of eight guests, making it ideal for those who wish to experience a pristine wilderness in a very private setting.
And what a setting: the Selinda Spillway is an ephemeral waterway that links the Okavango Delta with the Linyanti wetlands and the Chobe River system. After years without water, the Spillway is once again flowing and is consequently flourishing with life.
Experience this untrammeled wilderness on foot, by 4X4, and by canoe, and discover the mysteries of the Selinda Reserve. Filled with birds, the area is known for huge herds of elephants and buffalo as well as the full range of predators, including the ever-elusive leopard and wild dog.
Highlights
Activities
A truly authentic safari camp that is perfect for small groups or families looking for a ‘back to basics’ safari experience.
Rooms
Tent
The camp draws on traditions of the classic East African safari with beautifully detailed explorer-style furniture and soft furnishings from Zanzibar and the East.
Each of the four luxury guest tents is en suite, their open-air bathrooms with hot water bucket showers and flush porcelain toilets. A private verandah affords dramatic views out over the Selinda Spillway.
Facilities
Elegant without being fussy, the camp is your comfortable base from which to explore the area. By day, the tented lounge area is shaded and cool; in the evenings it provides an intimate gathering place by the fireside.
The emphasis at Selinda Explorers Camp is very much on being ‘out there’ in the wilderness. Nature makes the call for each day’s itinerary, and the movements of wildlife will dictate the route you take in the company of your experienced guide.
Morning game drives are usually the best way to start the day but you can also canoe down the Spillway and, as the camp sits in a private reserve, enjoy guided walks before your afternoon game drive. Sip a sundowner drink as you watch the day ebb away and then wrap up for an early evening night drive, complete with a spotlight and a host of nocturnal animals.
Dining
Your guide will wake you with a revitalizing flask of tea or coffee before a light breakfast sees you off on your morning safari.
Meals at Selinda Explorers Camp are often served in open-air surroundings. Alfresco picnics enable you to remain out on safari all day while a candlelit table under the stars is considered the best way to finish the day. The cuisine is simple yet surprisingly delicious, often cooked on an open fire.
