Tucked away under huge trees on the banks of the Zambezi River, Potato Bush Camp is the sister lodge to nearby Sausage Tree Camp. It has the distinction of being one of the few lodges set inside Zambia's game-packed Lower Zambezi National Park, long a favourite under-the-radar destination for safari aficionados.
Featuring only three huge tented suites and a 4-sleeper family tent, this camp promises a very intimate and personalised safari experience for honeymooners, groups of friends and adventurous families. And with its remote setting at the heart of the big game country, the opportunities for wildlife viewing at Potato Bush Camp are fantastic, not least from the comfort of the unfenced camp itself. Although it is named after a shrub that gets pretty purple-blue flowers, Potato Bush Camp lies in the shade of tortillas and mahogany trees, with beautiful solid Zambian rosewood used in the lodge’s fixtures and furniture.
A wide variety of activities ensures that the most is made of this spectacular area. Morning and afternoon/evening game drives set the pace and guided walks, boat safaris and canoeing expeditions in Canadian-style canoes are also on offer, helping you gain a new perspective on the Zambezi's teeming ecosystems. Bird watchers will be amazed by the birdlife (especially southern carmine bee-eaters) while anglers will be keen to take on the challenge of catching the fearsome tigerfish (all necessary tackle is provided).

Safari Tent
Three beautifully designed Luxury Suites and a double Family Tent have been carefully positioned both to maximize the incredible Zambezi River views and to ensure privacy. The en suite facilities include indoor and outdoor showers and a classic claw-footed bath with views of the river.
Spacious and full of natural light, each tent boasts a 2-person hammock and private plunge pool on the verandah, making them the perfect spot to spend a lazy afternoon siesta watching the world go by.
The massive Family Tent has a large central living, dining and balcony area which divides the two bedrooms. Its frontage is 21 metres / 70 feet long, giving you plenty of space. Both bedrooms are en suite with twin showers, twin basins and four-claw bathtubs with a view. Thanks to its large plunge pool, fully stocked bar, fridge and dining table, this tent is perfect for families or a party of four adults.
Facilities
This beautifully designed lodge blends in seamlessly with the riverine environment. Raised timber walkways connect the four guest suites with the central bar, dining and lounge area, which is a blend of wood and canvas with enchanting décor and finishing touches.
Potato Bush's lounge is a wonderful place to relax on the sofa with a chilled glass of wine, taking in the stunning view of the river. The camp is an easy drive from Jeki airstrip.
Dining
You are woken each morning with a steaming flask of coffee or tea before a light-cooked buffet breakfast and your early morning safari activity. On your return to camp, a hearty a la carte lunch is served. In the mid-afternoon, snack on sweet and savoury delicacies over tea and coffee.
You will enjoy sunset drinks and snacks while out on your afternoon activity before returning to camp. Evenings are given over to cocktails at the fireside before a delectable set-menu dinner, accompanied by South African wines, is served in the softly lit dining room.
Dietary requirements can be accommodated with sufficient notice. The staff are also able to arrange bush dinners, lunches on water (on sandbanks or the pontoon) as well as private dining on your own deck or in your room should be weather be inclement.
