The smaller sister camp of Kaingo Camp, Mwamba Bush Camp offers a personal safari experience in an intimate and authentic atmosphere. There are only three thatched chalets at Mwamba, making it ideal for privacy-seeking travelers and honeymooners, and the guides are exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate about their role.
Set on the banks of the Mwamba River, a tributary of the Luangwa, the camp lies under huge shady trees. The Mwamba riverbed is usually dry but the camp has easy access to two permanent waterholes, both of which have hides set over them for fantastic photographic opportunities. You are also treated to three activities a day; a morning and afternoon game drive, as well as guided visits to the waterhole. You are also welcome to swap a drive for a guided walking safari or even spend the whole day out on a 4X4 game drive for maximum wildlife-viewing opportunities.
Mwamba Bush Camp is a simple accommodation with an organic feel: the main buildings have natural floors and reed walls, lit at night by a combination of solar-powered lights, candles, and classic paraffin lanterns. It is a great camp for romantic travelers, adventure seekers, wildlife photographers, and families with older children.

Chalet
There are only three reed-and-thatch suites at Mwamba, designed with a skylight (protected by mosquito gauze) set into the roof to give you the sensation of sleeping under the stars. The rooms are simple but have everything you need for a comfortable stay such as cupboards and tables plus a shaded veranda with a wooden table and chairs overlooking the riverbed. African prints, wall hangings, and grass floor mats combine to deliver an authentic, ethnic ambiance.
Each room has an en suite bathroom with a flush toilet, a natural stone basin, and a bucket shower with hot water warmed on the campfire on request.
Other Room Types
The Honeymoon Suite at Mwamba Bush Camp is set the furthest away from the main camp and features a grand 4-poster double bed.
Facilities
Mwamba is a very simple bush camp with its main building made of timber and reeds and featuring sandy floors. There is no generator and the camp is lit at night by a combination of solar-powered lights, candles, and paraffin lanterns. It has been built around a huge ebony tree complete with thick vines that support the drinks shelf – always a talking point before meals!
The camp has a lounge area with chairs and a sofa plus books and board games to keep you entertained but the best entertainment is surely to be found at the camp’s two photographic hides, set over permanent waterholes and giving close-up views of the famously prolific Luangwa wildlife.
Dining
Meals are served communally at Mwamba Bush Camp, either inside or outside depending on the weather. Tea, coffee, and biscuits begin the day, served by the campfire before the early morning activity. There is a hot and cold buffet breakfast following your mid-morning return to camp and then a light lunch which may be served on your veranda if requested.
Guests enjoy afternoon tea before the evening game drive, which ends with sunset drinks and snacks, followed by a 3-course plated meal back at camp and accompanied by your choice of red or white wine. Soft drinks, house wine, and local spirits are included in the tariff but fine wines, champagne imported spirits and liqueurs are extra.
