Bordering the Moremi Game Reserve in the north of the Okavango Delta, this lavish safari camp is shaded by a thick canopy of trees and raised on wooden platforms, offering splendid views of the lush Delta terrain. Guests at either of the two 7-roomed satellite camps can enjoy land- and water-based activities in an unfenced private concession. Vumbura North Camp is slightly more geared towards families or groups travelling together, while Vumbura South Camp is suited to couples on honeymoon.
Birders will delight in being able to spot slaty egrets, wattled cranes and the elusive Pel’s fishing owl while game lovers will enjoy being able to tick off their lists and photograph their favourites (all 4x4s are equipped with convenient bean bags for you to steady your camera). Vumbura Plains has two motorboats –each seating six – and half a dozen mekoro for excursions onto the flooded plains. Or take nature walks with a knowledgeable guide and try your hand at superb catch-and-release fishing.
As an eco-retreat, the emphasis at Vumbura Plains is on ensuring the most relaxing possible holiday within a magnificent stretch of wilderness. Even the walls of your enormous private shower are constructed from floor-to-ceiling glass to allow you tranquil views of herds of grazing impala or passing zebras.

North Standard Tent
Covered with a thatch roof, these sophisticated tents are open on three sides and crafted from canvas, glass and wood. Minimalist in their contemporary design, each en suite tent is built on a raised platform affording guests splendid views of the plains below. Tents comprise a bedroom and an adjoining sunken lounge leading onto an expansive deck. The extensive deck area boasts an outdoor lounge and dining area as well as a plunge pool and hot shower overlooking the plains.
Facilities
The camp boasts spacious public areas that provide breathtaking views of the plains. The contemporary, open-sided main communal area is shaded by a canopy of trees. Inside, a dining area and bar with glass sliding doors and outside plenty of comfortable sitting areas are to be found. A fire pit is built into the deck, making for a fantastic place to keep warm at night and enjoy a drink. The pool is great for unwinding between meals or activities, whether you want to swim or read a book while lounging around the sapphire water.
Aside from twice-daily game drives, walking safaris with an armed guide as well as boating trips (water-level dependent) in a motorised boat or mokoro are also available.
A beauty and wellness therapist is at hand if you would like to indulge in any massage or spa treatments during your stay.
A specially trained member of the Bush Buddy team can be assigned to guests aged six to 12 or 13 to 17, who will receive an age-appropriate gift on arrival. Their Bush Buddy will lead them in treasure hunts, African games and lessons in cooking in the open, like 'chicken in the ground' and pizza-making in termite mounds.
Dining
Enjoy a cooked breakfast buffet before your morning safari and a substantial brunch on your return from the wilderness. A decadent choice of sweet and savoury snacks is laid out for afternoon tea to be enjoyed before your evening game drive. Dinner is served either under the stars on the deck or inside the communal area. Three-course gourmet meals – including moreish butternut squash lasagne - are accompanied by excellent wines, which your hosts quite happily recommend at your request. Romantic bush dinners can also be arranged.
