Located in a little-visited and unspoiled part of Zambia's South Luangwa National Park, Bilimungwe is an intimate and remote safari camp on the shaded banks of the Luangwa River. The lodge's position next to the river and its wildlife-packed grassy floodplains means that Bilimungwe is a nature-lovers paradise. Bilimungwe provides a comfortable base for guided morning and sunset walking safari, or a place to set off on foot to a neighbouring camp.
Game drives are also on offer and deliver frequent sightings of Africa's classic big game species such as lion, buffalo, hippo, leopard, and elephant as well as rare animals like wild dogs plus a huge variety of bird species. In between game-viewing activities, spend hot afternoons relaxing under cool thatching or in one of the lazy loungers set in a beautiful spot overlooking the Luangwa River.
Highlights
Activities
Wonderful small camp which gives it a very warm and intimate feel. I loved this spot.
Rooms
Standard Room
Bilimungwe is an intimate and rustic safari camp with just four reed-and-thatch chalets. Two of them are furnished with king-size beds while the other two have queen-size beds. Each chalet has an en suite bathroom with an open-air waterfall shower, flush toilet, and twin washbasins. When not out on game drives or walking safaris, you can relax in the shade on your veranda overlooking the floodplains where antelope graze. Being a remote camp, Bilimungwe doesn't have mains electricity but there is a generator to light the chalets and recharge your camera batteries.
Facilities
Relax with a refreshing drink and a pair of binoculars on the large wooden deck area as you look out over one of the lodge's three much-frequented waterholes and spot animals below you.
Dining
Guests sit down for meals together in the thatched dining area or gather around the fire for a riverside barbecue. Food is wholesome and tasty and features buffet-style lunches and 3-course dinners.
You'll never go hungry at Bilimungwe: tea and homemade biscuits are served in the afternoons and sundowner drinks and snacks will appear before you during walking safaris and game drives.
