Located in a small concession area in popular Hwange National Park, Deteema Springs sits on the shoulder of a small rise dotted with boulders and fringed by teak and mopane forests. Flanked by a seep (collection of springs) on one side and Deteema dam on the other, attracting animals looking to water themselves. Elephants, plains game, and packs of endangered African wild dogs are all common sights here.
There is plenty to do at Deteema. Start your days with a game drive, or bird watching, or immerse yourself in nature with a guided walk. Under the care of a highly trained guide, you will discover the finer details of the African bush that come together to form the bigger picture. If you don’t feel like leaving camp, though, Deteema’s raised decks and pathways mean that you’ll still be able to see some of the abundant wildlife inhabiting this area.
The camp’s elevated position ensures both privacy and sweeping views of Hwange, while its restrained design ensures that the animals remain the real stars of the show. Deteema successfully combines authentic safari luxury with eco-awareness with its non-permanent canvas tents, solar power, and bio plants to manage the kitchen and laundry service.

Luxury Tent
Deteema takes the idea of ‘less is more’ to new levels with seven eco-luxury tents positioned on raised wooden decks on a slope above the main area. Following the natural contour of a hill, the tents are designed to blend in with the rock and bush in the natural surroundings. The pared-back décor leaves the wildlife to be the real stars of the show while ensuring minimal impact on the environment – no permanent structures or energy-heavy appliances here. Each en suite bedroom features a queen bed, a private relaxation area as well as a private deck where you can view the wildlife that comes to visit below.
Family Luxury Tent
With a queen bed and two single beds, the family room is the perfect size for two adults and two children.
Facilities
Deteema Springs’ safari tents are built on elevated wooden decks that raise both the tents and pathways off the ground, providing a great vantage point from which to view the landscape and wildlife around the camp. The plunge pool is the perfect place to cool off after a morning game drive or walk. Spend the afternoon floating in the water or relaxing on a sun lounger lost in a book from the camp’s library. You can also venture to one of the dedicated Wi-Fi areas to catch up with friends and family back home. When the day is nearly over, the oversized tented deck that serves as the dining and social area becomes the camp’s social hub. Order a sundowner from the bar, relax in the lounge, or gather around the fire pit to swap safari stories to get that authentic African safari feeling. And when your time at Deteema comes to an end, it’s just a short game drive to the Robins Airstrip.
Dining
Meals are prepared in the eco-friendly kitchen and served either in the tented dining area or, for dinner, out under the stars. A light breakfast is served before you get started with your activities for the day. A delicious brunch spread greets you as you return from your morning adventures – the perfect precursor to some afternoon leisure time. High tea gets your energy levels up for your afternoon game drive and whets your appetite for a delicious dinner when you return.
