An elegant camp, Mowani Mountain Camp lies in an area of astounding beauty and is discreetly built high up among massive red granite boulders in the heart of Namibia's Damaraland. It's a vast unspoilt wilderness area and home to spellbinding views and far more wildlife than the rocky terrain suggests.
You can expect an array of exciting adventures and wildlife activities at Mowani. Go on guided drives in search of the elusive desert-adapted elephant or hike through the magnificent landscape to discover its details. You can also explore the historic rock art site at Twyfelfontein and enjoy the rare sight of more than 2,500 Bushman engravings and paintings - probably the finest example of rock engravings in Southern Africa.
Highlights
Activities
Mowani has a lovely atmosphere and one of the best sunset lookout points I've ever enjoyed, set high up on a massive boulder where you can see for miles.
Rooms
Standard View Room
Accommodation at Mowani Mountain Camp is in 12 luxury thatched-roof tents built on raised wooden platforms hidden away among the boulders.
En suite bathroom facilities consist of a shower, washbasin and toilet. A canvas-covered veranda at the entrance of the tent enables guests to enjoy sensational views of the rugged Damaraland landscape.
Superior View Room
Mowani Mountain Camp also offers a luxury thatched suite, ideal for the discerning traveller. Complete with butler service, satellite television and a music centre, the suite has a spacious lounge plus private dining and bar facilities as well as a magnificent outdoor bathroom which has been built around boulders - the view from the bath must rate as one of the best in Africa.
Facilities
Mowani's main complex consists of a cluster of six thatched dome-shaped structures offering a bar, lounge and dining areas - all with open sides to give guests an ideal spot to escape from the heat of the day.
You can also relax at the pool deck while enjoying a refreshing drink and admiring the views. Sit on the gorgeous lookout spot atop of huge boulders overlooking the plains and enjoy a refreshing sundowner.
Dining
Evening sundowners are enjoyed at an enormous flat boulder with a rocky overhang that serves as a bar.
From here you can enjoy spectacular views of the Aba-Huab Valley and distant mountains - an awesome setting for truly memorable sunsets.
After an excellent three-course dinner you can savour the stillness of the night under a blanket of stars in front of an open fire.
