Located on the plains below Mount Kenya, in the center of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Sweetwaters Serena Camp is a sheltered, luxury safari camp that will provide you with a true taste of Africa's wildlife. Ideal for those who want to see as many wild animals as possible, the camp is built around a watering hole where animals regularly come to drink and graze. The reserve still boasts many conservation efforts, with the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, as well as the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya.
With the conservancy's wildlife-to-area ratio being the highest of any Kenyan national park, you are guaranteed an unforgettable safari experience. Your days will be spent going on early morning, afternoon, or evening game drives to search for the members of the Big 5 as well as an abundance of other African wildlife. You can also indulge in exciting camel treks, guided nature walks, and bird-watching excursions.
Highlights
Activities
A lovely option for families especially! The watering holes in front of the tents and the hot water bottle in the bed at night were the highlight. A visit to the nearby Chimp Sanctuary is recommended.
Rooms
Standard Tent
The camp consists of 39 luxury tents, positioned in a cluster around the waterhole. Each has a private veranda or balcony that overlooks the waterhole, and all chalets are connected to the main buildings with stone pathways that wind through the landscaped grounds.
The spacious tents feature an en suite bathroom with hot and cold running water and a flush toilet. Additional children's beds or cots can be added on request.
Facilities
The Kashoggi Bar and Lounge is located in the old manager's house and offers a blazing fireplace - creating the ideal spot for a warm evening nightcap.
The Waterhole Bar is built in the style of a game-viewing hide and overlooks the waterhole, making for excellent viewing while you sip on a drink.
The swimming pool offers a place where you can cool off and have some fun with the children while the extensive landscaped grounds are ideal for a quiet afternoon stroll.
Dining
The Rhino Restaurant is housed in what used to be the manager's house and features floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the waterhole. Breakfast and lunch take the form of a buffet, and offer a range of international options to choose from as well as many vegetarian choices. Dinner is served in table d'hôte style and is accompanied by a salad buffet, soup, entrée, and dessert.
Once again, vegetarians will find ample dishes to suit their tastes. Sweetwaters Serena Camp sources the majority of its meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables from the communities surrounding the reserve. Special children's meals can be arranged on request.
