Lying in the heart of Kenya, Loisaba Tented Camp is also surrounded by 56 000 acres of private wildlife conservancy that is home to a burgeoning elephant population, all of the big cats, and at least two thriving packs of wild dogs, one of the most exciting of all predators to see on safari.
Accommodation is in one of just a dozen very spacious and tastefully decorated tents, and activities include day and night game drives and bush walks with qualified Samburu guides. If you prefer to ‘ride’ rather than walk or be driven, mount a camel, horse, or mountain bike for a completely different way to explore the Laikipia plains. This is one of the most diverse landscapes in Kenya, its open grasslands and basalt hills making way for forests of podo, cedar, sandalwood, and olive trees. This natural splendour in turn supports the second largest grouping of elephants in the country and the under-threat Grevy’s zebra, one of the most beautiful of its species.
Conservation projects are taken very seriously in Loisaba and as part of your stay, you can learn more about radio-wave lion tracking and visit the adorable sniffer dogs of the successful anti-poaching unit (a donation will be well used and much appreciated). Fly into the Loisaba Airstrip and when not out on safari, relax in the large lounge area or around the rim-flow swimming that has sensational views of Laikipia.
Loisaba Tented Camp is best suited to teenagers and adults and is the sister property to the Loisaba Starbeds, a sleep-out retreat with lovely views. The best chance of a glimpse of Mount Kenya is early in the morning on a clear day before the mountain's characteristic cloud overcomes and surrounds the peak.

Activities
Loisaba is a place you cannot help but fall in love with! This tented camp with its panoramic views over the waterhole is a truly unique luxury experience. A place that is in total harmony with its natural surroundings, your days will be filled with activities from game drives to lion tracking, horse riding to guided walks but one would just as easily while away your day at camp and wait for wildlife to wander past. For families, couples, active travelers, and those interested in culture and conservation; Loisaba will steal your heart for sure.
Rooms
Facilities
Loisaba Tented Camp has a rim-flow swimming pool and comfortable living areas. The pool is one of the best in Kenya: painted black and getting all-day sun, it has tepid water and wonderful views over the Laikipia plains.
There are facilities for horse riding, mountain biking, camel trekking, and fishing, and qualified Samburu guides will lead you on fascinating bush walks.
There is a top-notch power supply, and Wi-Fi Internet access, and the camp has been afforded a Silver Eco Status.
Dining
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in the main dining room but bush breakfasts, sundowners, and bush picnics can also be arranged.
Sample the ruby-red prickly-pear juice that is harvested as part of a project to remove this alien and invasive cacti species (elephants love prickly-pear plants and their thorns are no match for Ellie's powerful teeth). Drizzle local Laikipia honey - which is very dark and treacly - on your cereal, porridge, or pastries for a delicious treat. Lunch is generally a buffet but dinner is a multi-course affair that consists of dishes such as risotto, beef, crumbed camembert, bruschetta, and smoked salmon.
