On the doorstep of South Luangwa National Park and overlooking a lagoon that often attracts elephants, Luangwa Safari House is a luxurious 4-bedroom villa that is perfect for families.
Tucked beneath the shady branches of huge trees at the foot of the Chindeni Hills, this castle-like villa has been inspired by the surrounding elements of nature. Ancient tree trunks form the frame of the house, while huge living areas offer magnificent views over the wilderness. Four individually designed en suite bedrooms flow onto floating timber decks, and a sparkling plunge pool offers cool respite from the summer sun.
Dedicated staffers are on hand to cater to your every need. Savour superb cuisine from your private chef and follow your tracking team into the wild in search of lions, leopards and buffaloes. You can expect thrilling day and night game drives but also guided walks and even boating during the summer season. At Luangwa Safari House, however, you don't even need to leave the comfort of your villa to see animals: relax by the pool and watch herds of elephants splash about in the lagoon and birds flit above you in the treetops.

Style & Décor
Built around a frame of silvery, weathered leadwood tree trunks, Luangwa Safari House has been designed to reflect its wild setting. On entering through the villa's massive door, you find a double-volume living space that is open to the wilderness beyond. A beautiful 30-lamp metal chandelier designed by Matt Peacock takes centre stage in the living room and uniquely designed furnishings create a comfortable and stylish ambience.
Neighbourhood
Luangwa Safari House neighbours the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia's Luangwa Valley. Winding between the mountain ranges of the Great Rift Valley, the Luangwa River is home to huge numbers of hippos and crocodiles, and the rich soil of its hinterland supports an abundance of classic African animals, from elephants and buffalo to big cats and wild dogs. It is also a destination that can easily be combined with a visit to Victoria Falls or Zambia's other wildlife gem - the Lower Zambezi National Park.
Suitability
This spectacular private house is the perfect getaway for families with children over the age of seven or groups of friends who want to experience a classic big game safari in exclusive comfort and independent style.
The best time to visit
Two distinct seasons define Zambia’s climate, with each offering a different experience.
The summer rainy season runs from December to April and sees the South Luangwa at its greenest and most flourishing. Rivers run full, many antelope give birth and the bird watching is sensational. Although it is hot and often wet, your chances of seeing a kill are high, and you will be able to go boating on the Luangwa River. Note that Luangwa Safari House closes during the time of heaviest rains from January 15th to March 15th.
The May to October dry season offers a far more comfortable time of year to visit. Winter's sparser vegetation makes game viewing easy, and as the dry season wears on, the concentrations of animals at waterholes and lagoons increase dramatically. Temperatures are cool to warm during the day and cold at night though bone-dry September and October are extremely hot.
Special Notes
Luangwa Safari House falls within the malaria belt so visitors are advised to consult their physician prior to travel for the most appropriate medication.
An incredible experience - from the accommodation and food to the staff and service. Perfect for families or groups of friends travelling together.
Rooms
Kitchen
The villa's modern and fully-equipped kitchen comes complete with a private chef who will serve delicious dishes whenever and wherever you want. Special dietary requirements and children’s favourites can be catered for, and the camp endeavours to use the freshest local ingredients and flavours to conjure up an authentic taste of Africa.
Master Bedroom
Individually designed to create an elegant and comfortable haven, the master bedroom merges seamlessly with the surrounding landscape through its open-sided walls and huge views. A king-sized, 4-poster bed overlooks the lagoon and leads to a private verandah.
Guest Bedrooms
The remaining three bedrooms feature king-sized beds that can be converted into twins if required and spacious, colour-themed en suite bathrooms. Rooms connect with the outdoors via private terraces that offer magnificent views over the lagoon and game-filled plains.
Individually designed en suite bathrooms reflect the colour themes of the rooms with lavish copper and aluminium bathtubs and showers. Plush towels and deluxe toiletries are welcome at the end of a long day.
Living & Dining Area
A magnificent double-volume living area with a high thatched ceiling and open sides dominates the central space of the house. The room features plush, comfortable furnishings and stunning views while designer fittings by Matt Peacock add a glamorous touch. A large marble dining table is perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying alfresco dining on the terrace.
Outside Area
Open-sided rooms flow onto a quartz-tiled terrace and a private plunge pool on the ground floor. The upstairs rooms open onto large floating terraces that offer panoramic vistas, making them the perfect place to sip sundowners as you watch herds of elephants amble by.
